How I Get Weeks of Work Done in Just a Few Hours

By Bob Beckett

So get this…

I went to bed at 8:30 PM and my beautiful innocent 8 year old daughter Hailey comes in and asks if she can sleep in my bed.  Of course…  me being a “Cool Daddy” said sure why not.

I asked her what time it was and she said 5:30 AM.  So me being so tired believed her… I got up… got ready for the day… and then looked at the clock.  It was only 12:30 AM!

My Everyday Life

So now that I am wide awake I figured I wouldn’t “waste” my time and try to provide you some value on how I get weeks worth of stuff done in a couple hours.

No I’m not talking about outsourcing in this post… although I do A LOT of that…  but something that literally took me YEARS to master and am still mastering to this day.  Time Management.

So here is my little system that works for me… and might work for you as well to help you run your business a lot better.

First of course you need to have ONE main goal.  Not 3… not 7… ONE.  And work your butt off towards that ONE goal.

Did you know that studies have shown that if you are “multi-tasking” your brain is the equivalent of someone high off of weed?  Example Below…

Also you need ZERO distractions.  Get off Facebook… (unless you are marketing on Facebook)… turn your cellphone ringer off,  and get away from the kids and especially the wife (just kidding Kayla).  No but really…  ZERO distractions.

Here is why.  Do you ever feel like you get in that zone where everything is clicking and you feel unstoppable?  You probably get more done then ever during this time don’t you?  Well even the smallest distraction such as you checking your email for 5 seconds… or getting a text message will take you ATLEAST 20 minutes to get back into the zone no matter how hard you try!

So here are my steps now that I just laid you down the law.

1.)  Think of EVERYTHING you can think of that you need to get done to “move you forward” towards your ONE goal. Anytime you think of anything else add it IMMEDIATELY to your list.  Then of course you simply prioritize the list based on what needs to be done first so that you can do the second objective etc..  DO NOT jump from one thing to another on your list until you are completed with the first thing.

Now for the MAC I use a software tool called The Hit List that prioritizes everything for me.  The reason I like this software in particular is because it puts up a timer that stays on top of all my windows REMINDING ME of what I’m supposed to be doing on my list.

The Hit List in Action

You will find that you will wander off checking out what your friends are doing on Facebook and look up and see the timer and it reads that you were supposed to be writing an article for the last 27 minutes.  It REALLY kicks you in the butt fast and makes you realize where you are wasting your time.

Remember TIME IS MONEY.  The whole point of this post is to show you how I get weeks worth of the average persons time done in just a few hours a week.  You also get the greatest sense of accomplishment seeing how much you finished and a realization of how much closer to your ONE GOAL you are!

2.)  Only work in 2 hour “Power Hours”.  This means you work yourself as hard as you can for 2 hours then take a good 30-60 minute break. Get up… stretch… jump on the treadmill… go to the coffee shop… WHATEVER.  Just get away from your computer for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Once you come back start right back on your list and do another 2 hour power hour.  You will be shocked at how giving your brain a quick break like that will rejuvenate you and also help your creativity.

3.)  You can now be done or you can go chill for another 30 minutes and come back for another 2 hours.  This is all up to you.  I like to only do 4 hours total of hardcore ACTION each day.  Then I go hang with my family and friends the rest of the day.

If you enjoyed this and you believe it will help others please like and share on Facebook!

Thanks for Visiting!

I have been looking for a work schedule like this for some time.
It sounds good, and I’ll try it the next few days.

Many thanks.

Oh, one thing, Time isn’t money, “Time is Eternity.”

Ephesians 5:16, “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Eph. 5:13-20 for a larger context.

1 Corinthians 3:13, “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”

Time is eternity.
